Why is there a need for Enterprise Risk services?
Enterprise risk enables clients to manage risk and uncertainty from the boardroom to the field. We have found that these services are required for a number of reasons:
Understanding – Most successful companies have their core business and processes refined and working correctly, but there is often a lack of understanding on Director level of the risks their management team may encounter and the related actions that must be adopted to ensure a safe working environment.
- Entering into a new business relationship – whether it is an investment, employment of a senior manager or setting up a business in a foreign territory, companies must be well informed about any potential risks involved, to ensure any risks are mitigated and the new venture is a success.
- Discovery of irregularities or wrongdoing – suspected fraud, theft, money laundering, allegations of misconduct, intellectual property infringements etcetera should be investigated to identify the perpetrators and to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
- Reporting – There is an increasing requirement for intelligent risk management reporting for Board and Director level, which is often not achieved by existing procedures, to achieve a secure operational environment and reduce crises.
- Resource allocation – Due to a low level of understanding and reporting, existing financial and human resources are often not focussed on the higher risks for the company.
- Changing environment – Businesses are surrounded by constant social, political, governmental and environmental changes that drive significant risk to the organisation. The loss of skilled human resources, significant criminal and terrorist activity, new products and markets, deregulation, privatisation and competitor activity can pose a great threat to companies.
- Expanded duty of care – Regulatory, legislative, investor and stakeholder developments call for increased accountability of Directors and CEO’s for corporate governance, risk management and duty of care for employees.
